Basketball

There is no true national sponsoring organization for adult basketball in the United States, although several organizations have begun to jockey for a position in the sport by sponsoring tournaments. Jim Sweeney helped organize teams of U.S. players to compete in the FIMBA (the International Maxibasketball Association) International Basketball Championship. The tournament was held in Orlando, Florida on August 20-30, 2015, featuring 215 teams from 96 countries. The U.S. dominated the competition, winning five gold medals and several bronze medals. The 2016 FIMBA Pan American Championship will be held in San Jose, Costa Rica in April, 2016. For more information on FIMBA log on to www.fimba.net.

Presently, "Masters" basketball is a grassroots phenomenon with adult recreational leagues for many age groups operating across the country. To find these leagues in your area, contact your local Parks Department, Fitness Club, or search the Internet.

There are several organizations offering "national" adult basketball tournaments each year (each with their own websites) and these are listed below.
